Why Scripture inspired art?

I gave my life to Christ when I was around 8 years old, but it wasn’t until I was 30 that I realized the power God’s Word held.

In 2018, I signed up for a biblical counseling course through my church. I was eager to learn how to help others walking through difficult times, because I had walked through difficult times, and God was my greatest comfort. The very first night of class, God opened my eyes to my lack of love for His Word.

The teacher quoted the great commission, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19–20a). He followed that with a single question, “What are Jesus’ commands?” I panicked in my seat. I fervently prayed to God that He wouldn’t call on me, because I had some great guesses, but I wasn’t confident in any of my answers.

I had read God’s Word from cover to cover at least once before I took this course, so why was it that I didn’t know it? I know now, it’s because I wasn’t relying on the Holy Spirit to reveal truth as I read it. I was actually reading the Bible just as I would a fiction novel. Speed reading through the boring parts, and taking my time through classics – like Esther, Ruth, and the Gospels.

I was missing amazing truths because of my prideful approach to God’s Word. I thought I could understand it on my own.

During one class the teacher showed a video of a counseling session between a married couple who had hit a rough patch. My mind was blown as the pastor asked simple questions and had them read verses I had memorized in Awana growing up. Immediately, you saw the Holy Spirit working in this couple and their words were softening towards each other. I wanted God’s Word to change me like it was changing them.

Once I began to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance as I read the Bible, I saw my attitude, actions, and thoughts change immensely. For the first time, I was understanding why so many people loved God’s Word and clung to it, because I was quickly becoming one of them. Now I’m taking what I’ve learned and putting the truth into my art, to help women hold truth-centered conversations with those they love.

Soon I will launch a blog where I’ll share what I’m learning from God’s Word, and how I have incorporated it into daily conversations with family and friends. Also, check out the shop and find a product to help you create room for God in all conversations with those you love! I will be adding more products in the coming months, so check back often to see what’s been added!

There’s room for God in every conversation!
